Case Study # 9 - Transformation

Building internal organisation design capability at a global innovator

The Challenge

Having restructured its main business divisions, a global agricultural technology and innovation company was seeking to change roles and ways of working across its workforce, as part of a drive towards modernisation and efficiency.   With business leaders increasingly looking to HR to help design and deliver change, the organisation needed to rapidly upskill its HR leaders in end-to-end organisation design, or risk them being left out of the conversation altogether.

The company wanted to invest in its internal OD capability, through a bespoke development program that could build confidence in designing and stewarding effective organisational change.

What We Did

Partnering with the client’s global OD leaders, we ran a discovery process with HR stakeholders to understand their OD needs and challenges.  This helped to shape a clear set of learning principles that would underpin the programme as something practical, flexible and grounded in leading tools and methods.  The module structure and content design process followed, resulting in a programme that:

  • blended 8 virtual and face-to-face skills modules, covering the key concepts and tools required to do organisation design well (delivered across three cohorts within 18 months)

  • utilised a live case study and simulation exercises, encompassing individual and group work

  • included a detailed learning handbook and reference material to help participants apply and retain their knowledge

  • was facilitated by Kindred’s OD experts alongside members of the client’s OD leadership team, who offered individual and group coaching throughout

The Impact

The programme was designed to have measurable impact, enabling people leaders to:

  • Rapidly build confidence to act as trusted organisation design advisors

  • Enhance their learning through external insight and practical application

  • Deliver more change themselves, reducing spend and reliance on external consultancies

On the most recent cohort, participant assessments (pre and post) achieved:

  • a 40% increase in stated OD knowledge and understanding (from “average” to “strong” score)

  • facilitation rating of 9.75/10

  • overall experience rating of 9/10
